When Winter Weather Happens

Cedar Crest campus in the snow
When Winter Weather Happens
Posted about 5 years ago in Cedar Crest NewsHealth, Wellness & Safety.

When inclement weather is in the forecast, how do students know if classes are canceled? Read on to learn the answer to this and other questions that may be on their mind.

Who decides whether the college is open or not?

Administrators make the decision based on road conditions, the weather forecast including local and regional alerts, and how quickly the parking lots and walkways on campus can be cleared.

When are the decisions made?

The College will typically notify the campus community of closure or class cancellation due to inclement weather by 6:00 AM for morning and afternoon classes and by 2:00 PM for evening classes. Changing weather and forecast predictions, however, may necessitate campus closure or class cancellation at any time.

How can I find out whether classes are being held or not?

The fastest way to find out is to sign up for e2Campus, a notification system that enables CCC to text your cellphone or to email you if there is a weather-related closing or delay or a campus emergency. All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to sign up for this system.

I have a 9:30 AM - 10:45 AM class, but Cedar Crest has a delay and won't open until 10:00 AM. Do I still go to that class?

Yes. If a class is scheduled to be in session when Cedar Crest opens, students are expected to come for the remainder of that class.

I got a text saying the “campus” is closed. Does that mean that classes are canceled?

Yes. If the entire campus is closed – we will use the word “campus”. There are times when classes are canceled yet the College remains open and we will clearly specify this in the alert.

I don't want to sign up for e2Campus. How else can I know if Cedar Crest is open?

There are a lot of ways to find out!

  • If a decision is made to close or delay, it is posted immediately to Cedar Crest College’s official social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
  • You can find information about weather closings and delays on WFMZ and many local radio and TV stations.
  • Closings are posted on cedarcrest.edu.
  • Call Cedar Crest College’s weather hotline 24 hours a day for closing information: 610-606-4629.
  • Please note that Cedar Crest College does not follow K-12 closing patterns.

Cedar Crest College is open but I don't feel safe driving. What should I do?

If you decide not to attend due to weather conditions, you must contact your instructors directly. It is the responsibility of students to work directly with their instructors.

Stay safe and warm!
